Why Welp exists — from the founder's heart to yours.
At my core, I'm an introvert with extrovert tendencies. When I first started navigating the dating world, I had no idea who I was, what I truly wanted, or even what kind of partner was right for me. I lacked confidence, but I also didn't want to be alone. As someone naturally shy, dating apps felt like the easiest way to put myself out there without having to fully step into the spotlight.
What a Rollercoaster ride!
Over the years, I went on countless dates trying to find someone who was genuinely who they claimed to be. I experienced everything from people lying about their age or appearance, to dates where there was little to no effort, conversations that ended in ghosting, connections that started intensely and disappeared just as fast, and situations where intentions were completely different from what was presented.
The hardest experiences weren't always the obviously bad ones. Sometimes the most painful moments came from believing you had finally found someone different, someone real, only to later discover that the connection was built on dishonesty.
That experience forced me to ask myself a question:
Why can we review businesses, products, and services, but have no meaningful tools to help us navigate one of the most emotionally impactful parts of our lives?
Dating today often feels fast, disposable, and disconnected. There's very little accountability, and people can easily move from one connection to the next without considering the emotional impact they leave behind.
My last heartbreak was worse than any I've experienced before. I found myself wishing there had been a way to know more before investing so deeply. Not to judge someone unfairly, but to better understand patterns, experiences, and intentions. I also found myself wishing there was a way to help the next person avoid the same pain.
Instead of allowing that heartbreak to harden me, I decided to transmute it into something that encourages clarity, communication, and accountability.
And ta da, Welp was born.
Welp was created to help people navigate dating with greater awareness, balanced perspectives, and honest experiences from real interactions. The goal is not to attack or shame people, but to create a space where users can make more informed choices while encouraging better behavior and healthier connections overall.
I truly hope Welp helps people feel less blind, and let's you use your voice in a way that matters!
If you want to learn more about my journey and how I got to this place in my life, I'll be releasing a book soon.
But for now, something to leave you with..
I come from a single parent home. My childhood was very abusive and dysfunctional. My dad was in the airforce, so we moved around often. I was never in one place for more than 2 years. So I never had an opportunity to make life long connections. It sucks but it is what it is. The trade is that I am extremely adaptable. I can be thrown into any situation and find my footing almost immediately. I can walk away from any situation, under any circumstances, at any time, no matter how hard.
I'm usually not around for a long time but for a meaningful time. The connections that I make are genuine and powerful but short. Everyone that comes is gone. It always happens like that. But their presence in my life was necessary for the time. If I ever loved you, I will always love you. No matter what mistake you made. That's what real love is. I hope they think of me fondly too. However, I can't keep what no longer serves me. I can and do love you from afar.
I have learned many great lessons in this life. My upbringing was harsh with a touch of cruelty. I could have easily used my past to be a terrible person today. Easily. I have every right considering my past. But that's not who I want to be. I want to be the best possible me that I can possibly be. That's real. I work for that every single day without fail. I cry a lot when no one is looking. I don't wallow. I let out the emotions that need to be released when they need to be. But then I get up and do what I need to do because nothing else is going to make it better. Certainly no one else. I have always been a very lonely person. So I've had nothing but time to focus on myself. I've come a very long way. And now all I want in this world is to change it with love and grace. What is the point of fixing a leak that has way too many cracks in it?? You have to replace the system. And even though I'm just one tiny human trying to influence the world to be better, I believe in this in a way that's absolute. I will see this through. I don't know how right now. I never really care about the how, just that I do. We'll See.
